Repost Tombstone Tuesday: Jacob GALLUP and wife Edna SLACK

Jacob Gallup and wife Edna SLACK

Jacob was born 1 Jan 1859 in Ledyard and died 1 Oct 1931 in Nowich. He married Edna, at the home of her parents, 21 August 1901 in Mystic. Jacob was the oldest child of Maj. Jacob Lorenzo GALLUP and his wife Anna GALLUP (#2497). Yes, both his parents were Gallups and they are buried at the Spicer Cemetery in Ledyard.

Edna Caroline SLACK was the daughter of Williams Leeds SLACK and his wife Caroline Pendleton YORK. She was born 30 Dec 1876 in Mystic and died 14 Nov 1966 in Norwich.

Jacob was a prominent member of his community, serving as Town Clerk in Ledyard for ten years, he was a farmer, and farmed poultry even after Moving to Norwich. He was a member of the General Assembly of Hartford in 1899.

Edna was a school teacher in in Ledyard at the time of her marriage was was a graduate of Williams Memorial Institute (now The Williams School) in New London in 1896. A reader of my blog kindly updated the information for me.
